The opportunity
I need to opinion-ate this somewhat to make it a proper column. That said we are actually calling them blogs. This way it looks less bad when we write really short entries I guess. The important thing is the new site should be a force for good throughout the internet and I shall now explain why.
When planning the site we looked at the fact that the celeb market was saturated – there were loads of different sites out there. So how are we able to even think that our site could do well? Well I think the main reason is this – the other sites are all crap.
There may be a lot of other celeb sites out there. But hardly any of them are little more than link dumps and collections of eBay listings and Google AdSense clusters. There is no real content behind them and it just sucks. It’s like the entire industry is a plague.
As much as I like the link dumps when they are linking to my sites, from a users point of view they are no use. Who really wants to know what Britney Spears items you can find on eBay when you are looking for her discography?
Even once you have found a page there is no guarantee you are going anywhere. Bombarded with pop-ups and navigation that would make an official site (made in flash of course) look like a site designed with accessibility in mind (don’t get me started on official sites – until next post).
So to be honest it is no wonder that these sites have pretty much run the whole sector into the ground. People think there are no real good celeb sites – they are out there, I have witnessed a few. But generally it is a load crap.
Hopefully we can change that though and make the site actually something you would want to visit. Though we still have issues to work out, the site is coming together nicely already. We are looking to the future because the past is not really a pleasant site.
